Something that always makes me smile is when songs I love also have awesome music videos. Royksopp didn't fail me with their video for Happy Up Here. Enjoy!
Okay, so it's another video and not a long overdue update - which I'm working on, by the way. Enjoy the video below while I get back on the blogging ball.
I've seen the kids on Facebook doing it, so I'm going to write my list here. Here are 25 things you may not know about me:
- When I was little, I was scared to death of the car wash. We're talking screaming and crying levels of scared.
- I played the piano from the ages of 7 to 18. I was never really any good....probably because I wanted a pony and not a piano.
- I'm a research nerd. Whenever I find something I like, I have to know everything about it and this has resulted in amazing search skills. ;)
- In my entire life, I've only had two boyfriends; I married the second one.
- I always joked about getting a job on Wall St when I was in college. I never thought it would actually happen.
- I saw "Say Anything..." for the first time when I was 12 years old. It was the movie that made me want to fall in love with someone.
- As a kid, I was far more interested in Nintendo than the dolls I owned. As an adult, this has become the opposite.
- I wanted to become a doctor, but I ended up changing my mind at college registration.
- I have no sense of compass direction. I yell at Dan when he says things like, "go north".
- When I first met my now husband, it was on the internet, we were 15, and we hated each other.
- I still love to watch reruns of Dawson's Creek.
- I hated math in elementary, middle, and high school. It wasn't until I went to college that I discovered a love for the stuff.
- I stepped on James Lipton's (that guy who hosts "In the Actor's Studio") foot trying to meet Will Ferrell at a cocktail party. I missed my chance because I was busy apologizing to Mr. Lipton.
- I hate surprises and rarely deal well with them.
- I try to do one good deed a day. Some days are harder than others...
- I've lived in New York for almost six years and I've never been to the Statue of Liberty.
- I once watched the movie Labyrinth 10 times in a row. I think I was eight years old when I did that.
- I cry like crazy whenever I watch the episode of Doctor Who entitled "Doomsday". It doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, I always cry.
- At the first horror convention I ever went to, I briefly walked around and made conversation with the only other person I could find who wasn't dressed as his/her favorite character. Later that day, I found out that he was the guy who played Jason in Friday the 13th Part II.
- Two years ago, I spent 7 hours on MTV for the Human Giant Marathon. It was equal parts awesome and exhausting.
- I watch more British television than American anymore.
- I moved away from home over 6 years ago, but I still talk to my parents almost every day.
- I have a tendency to get flustered easily over certain things...I'm working on that.
- I was in a movie with Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek when I was 17 months old. It all transpired because my parents were bored while vacationing in Mexico, and auditioning for a film sounded entertaining.
- I secretly still want that pony mentioned in item #2.

Laugh and enjoy:
- Being the first puppy I ever held in my arms and could call my own.
- Dealing with all my teenage drama. I'm sure that was soooooo much fun to watch.
- All the times you were my study partner and fell asleep on my Marketing books. I know it was your way of telling me it was time to get some rest.
- Licking the tears away when I cried about anything...even the stupid stuff.
- Keeping mom and dad so happy after I moved away. They loved you everyday for that.
Last night, John Malkovich performed what I believe to be the best version of Twas the Night Before Christmas ever recited. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did....
First of all, the good:
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with delicious food and quality time with your respective families. This was an especially important turkey day for Dan and I as we were playing host to my parents and cooking the entire meal. I definitely think we make an amazing team in the kitchen...maybe it's from all those years we spent eating in restaurants and watching various Gordon Ramsay shows. I certainly feel we've come a long way in the last three months of cooking. Although the preparation took most of yesterday, the meal came together with few complications and my parents we're extremely happy with results. Here are a few pictures of the meal care of Dan's Flickr:
Now, the bad (aka - My Christmas Rant):
At some point in the last few years, a switch flipped in my brain and I now cringe when someone states any variation of the following: It's Black Friday - the Christmas season is upon us! Why does this sentence cause me such grief? Here's why:
Apparently a healthy portion of the population believes that its perfectly acceptable, for the window of time between Black Friday and Christmas, to go fucking nuts over store sales and the latest gotta-have gadgets. People who operate in this manner make me feel like I'm stuck in the movie 28 Days Later, only lets make the infectious rage virus cause people to shop like assholes. I just read that a Walmart worker was trampled to death this morning while opening a store in Long Island; the employee was apparently stepped on by hundreds people as they hurdled themselves into the store. Seriously, what object is worth being that ruthless over?
Trust me, I understand that families want to surprise each other with the gifts they've been aching to own. I also understand the significant impact of the economy on holiday budgets for many families....sales that pop up this time of year could very well be the difference between getting those gifts or heading home empty handed. I sympathize with all of these scenarios, but they DO NOT condone barbaric behavior.
I would love to go to the stores and shop for my family at Christmas time....and I've tried in the past, unsuccessfully. I've had items snapped out of my hands, my foot stomped on for a handbag I was looking to buy, and I've lost count as to how many times I've been pushed to the side to grab the last of something. I never fought back because I didn't see the point. The most I would do is tell the person he/she was mentally unhinged. Needless to say, everything I buy this year will come from online retailers. Amazon will see my credit card a lot this year.
In short, I guess I would just like to urge these people to remember we are a country trying to work towards unity; the Christmas season is one of the most important times to not lose site of that. There is no material possession on this earth that's worth hurting someone else over. This includes taking things out of carts when a person turns his/her back for a moment. I love being a consumer as much as the next girl (handbag collection, anyone?), but I'm not going to go nuts if don't get something I wanted. Just try....respect is paramount.
Again, The Good(!):
Dan and I will continue our hosting duties into the Christmas season as both sets of parents are joining us on December 27th for a party and gift-giving. I am very excited to be decorating and I plan on doing A LOT of baking! More posts will be on their way... I know I've been pretty much AWOL for the last three months.
Anyway, I hope you all have wonderful time with the remainder of the holiday weekend. And remember: a pleasant shopper is a happy shopper. ;)
